Although technically not a Carpinteria park, this is a fairly large county park within easy driving distance of the city.

This heavily wooded park has complete facilities for small and large groups, play grounds for children, hiking trails, plenty of parking and a stream that runs through the middle.

The one thing we really like about this park is you get a sense of what California canyons were like before palm trees and other non-native species were added.  It seems pure and true to its heritage.

It is possible to make reservations for the group facilities by contacting Santa Barbara County's Parks Department.

Directions:  From the 101 take the Padaro Lane exit.  Turn towards the mountains.  The road will dead end.  Turn right.  You will come to Toro Canyon Road.  Turn left.  Follow the road (it twists a lot) until the signs for Toro Canyon Park.  Turn right and follow the road for a little over a mile.  It will end at the park.
